About [holandaluz] fotografias

After finishing photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in my hometown The Hague, The Netherlands in 1996 I walked different creative directions as well in photography as in video. I found my place in corporate, travel & interior photography traveling to different corners of the world from my base in sunny Southern Spain.

CEPSA Refinery Gibraltar-San Roque, Cadiz, Spain

June 7th, 2010

Following up on my last post, where I came back from finishing up a shoot and shooting the sunset, I passed the CEPSA refinery Gibraltar-San Roque (Spanish: Refinería de Gibraltar-San Roque) on my way home. Built in 1967, it’s situated in Guadarranque Industral Estate. It is the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, with a crude oil daily processing capacity of 240,000 barrels per day. I love industrial objects and for years I wanted to shoot this at night, but only remember that when I pass it by. Usually you’re to late by then to hit an exit or any other reason not to be able to stop. This time I was in time for the exit and decided to give it a go. The area is vast and long stretched, and I got lost a few times :) , but I think I pulled off some nice ones for a first exploration. This place begs for more!!….. — V

first view

I found a little, more or less hidden and out of sight of guards thinking I am planning a terrorist attack, beach with views on the Bay of Gibraltar, where ships were being cargoed.

180º around en a wonderful view of the refinery

While losing my way out I shot the picture below….took me another half hour circling around and asking a guard to get back on the highway. Funny enough I passed this spot again, just when I hit the entry to the highway. ;)

Sunset at Zahara de los Atunes

June 6th, 2010

While coming back from finishing up a shoot in the province of Cadiz, I saw the beautiful setting sun (hard to miss really). So instead of going home I detoured to the nearby fishing village Of Zahara de los Atunes for a sunset watch and later on the well deserved beer and a tapa. I left the camera in the car (as you do, being a photographer) and realized quickly that that was a stupid idea. Ran back, returned and found this beauty, Ana, strolling along. Asked her to pose a bit and we cranked off a bunch of shots. Kinda classic, but I think it turned out nice. Later on I passed the refinery of San Roque and did another detour. More on that later. — V
